The huge Storia della Valtellina e delle già Contee di Bormio e Chiavenna by the Sondriese lawyer Giuseppe Romegialli (1779-1861), son of the Morbegnese painter Gian Pietro (1738-99) and father of another historian, Francesco (1839-93), was first published in Sondrio by Giovanni Battista della Cagnoletta between 1834 and 1844 and it hasn’t been republished: till now. The work, originally printed in-octavo, amounted to nearly two thousand pages and was published in several paper-bound issues during a decade thanks to a syndacate composed by the local élite, whose names are duly recorded by Romegialli in the first volume: we wish to remember them, too. Nowadays as in the past, fulfilling such a big task is possible only thanks to the help of the true scions – often in the genealogical sense, but most of all from the ideal point of view – of those more or less well known members of the ruling class of those times, which saw the best part of the bourgeoisie happily mixed with the nobility and the Clergy: in the same way, the names of those that in an ideal continuous followed their steps by taking part to this publication are recorded in a tabula gratulatoria at the beginning of the volume. The work, reprinted in its integrity and tipografically recomposed with the elegant Garamond font in two hard-bound volume (21x30 cm), is be elegantly bound in cloth, and furtherly preserved by a  cover reproducing the originary patterns of the old edition. Dedicated to the memory of Professoressa Maria Laura Meli Bassi, for several years President of the Società Storica Valtellinese, this edition is also patronized by the Centro Studi Storici Valchiavennaschi.
