The Stemmario Archinto derives its name from its seventeenth-century owner, Ottavio Archinti, Count of Barate from 1634, as well as a famous antiquarian. His much-celebrated collection of stone inscriptions was eventually acquired by the City Council of Milan in 1860. The Insignia Familiarum Codex ended up, however, in the possession of Victor Emanuel III of Savoy and it is still kept in Turin’s Royal Library. There are two volumes of the original manuscript.
